Could not connect to local mail server or mail server is not installed.

The PHP Live! system will utilize the standard PHP mail() function using the web server mail settings to send out emails (transcripts, offline messages, etc).  However, if your web server or hosting company does not have an email server setup or the email server is not enabled, this message ("Could not connect to local mail server or mail server is not installed.") will appear.  Please contact your server admin or hosting company about "the server being able to send out emails from a PHP script".  This is a server matter and your server admin or hosting company can help with this.

As an alternative, the PHP Live! system can use an external SMTP provider to send out emails.  To access the SMTP feature of the PHP Live! system, here is what you will want to do:

  1. Login to your PHP Live! Setup Admin area
  2. Click the top menu "Extras"
  3. Continue to the "SMTP" sub menu to configure
  4. Done!

If you are looking for a good SMTP provider, check out SendGrid.com or MailGun.com
